I still remember the day when I spent my 2 months pocket money to buy an HTML book. For RM78, it was a big amount for a secondary school student like me, but I’ll never forget that first computer book of mine. Notepad was my best friend before Hotdog came into existence, and the best place I can get to host my website was Geocities, if not Tripod. The year was 1995 and things has changed a lot now.
Technology has come a long way, and free and open sourced CMS (Content Management System) has become a "Website for Dummy" solution, while at the same time providing functionality and reliability for the enterprise uses. Mohdshakir.net itself is powered by Joomla, one of the most popular CMS around.
Before proceeding with building your very own personal website, it’s best to answer these questions first;
- What content will you have in your website? Do you have a target audience?
- Will you be able to frequently update your website?
- Will people visit your website, and most importantly, will they pay returning visits to your site?
- Why do you want a personal website in the first place? Is it worth all the hassle of bringing up one?
For this first post, let’s just start by listing out the ingredients that build up this site. I’ll elaborate further in my coming posts, but for now you can start by googling and try out the items in the list for yourself ;
