Need to access eperolehan.com.my but this so-called Open Source initiated government’s website requires nothing more than MS Internet Explorer. Being a full time Linux user, booting up Windows is not really a pleasure. I remembered reading about IEs4Linux (http://www.tatanka.com.br/ies4linux/index-en.html) few days back, and I should just give myself a try.
In gentoo it’s fairly simple. I just need to emerge wine and cabextract, and then download the ies4linux package from http://www.tatanka.com.br/ies4linux/downloads/ies4linux-2.0beta8.tar.gz , extract it and run the ies4linux script, and the rest is fairly automatic. Let’s register some companies, yeah

From ies4linux website:
How about the legal stuff?
IEs4Linux is free software, open source, covered by GPL. But IE is proprietary, copyrighted, and you have to accept their license.
Note that to install any MS program included on IEs4Linux, you need a valid Windows license. IEs4Linux will not ask for it and you can run everything without any problem even if you don’t have a license. But it is illegal and a I have not to do with this.
And you should accept Macromedia Flash EULA too.
One more from the site:
Please, don’t use any of these IEs to navigate!! Get Firefox
Regarding virusses, try this site: http://os.newsforge.com/article.pl?sid=05/01/25/1430222&from=rss

Memang begitu norma masyarakat skrg ni. Kurang ajaran, malah tidak mahu terima ajaran lagi..Cakap le apa pun, they’ll keep on with IE. It’s not a matter of favorite browser or anything.. My previous office, mmg ada rule, don’t browse the net using IE

My previous company doesn’t allow IE (and few other MS products) simply for security reason. I believe that’s the concern here.

Organisations need to learn how to make their website accessible to different kinds of browsers. Why can’t people just stick to html and server programming.
You don’t need shockwave in your forms for goodness sake! hehe

Yeah, especially those really big (government) organisations, where end users (with little/no know-how) just need to use the services (take eperolehan in my case). It’s gonna be a nightmare for a pakcik somewhere who just need to use some online application at a cybercafe just to know the application cannot be used there, and don’t have any idea where to go from there.
Don’t worry about mohdshakir.net, it’s tested against firefox, IE, opera, and konqueror. Haven’t had a chance to test it with Safari, but from my logs, there are a few safari users, but so far no complain

I’m a part-time Safari user and there isn’t any problem viewing your site with it, Shakir.
An advice for site developers, WWW is a competition. You can’t win with only IE users.

Aha, nice. I’m not used to Safari / Mac (though my KDE is now going into Jaguar makeover, ehe) and so I have no comment on it’s compatibility. New site for you to test; spoof.emelaka.gov.my . I couldn’t view the flash in Firefox or Opera, but my ies4linux was not having problem with it. Probably it’s just Flash player problem, but probably you have better luck with it’s Mac version

Already visited spoof.emelaka.gov.my website, About the cyber defense competition flash animation, its look fine in Safari browser and the background sound is ok 2.

Seem’s like the site hates Linux only
nevermind, the event is over, but the organizer should be more sensitive with the issue, as most of the potential participants would probably be Linux users, and it’s a minus for not supporting their favorite OS / browser.

I also have difficulties when trying to access my hr website.(they only allow IE user to browser that site) then what ill doing is just fake out some hearder on firefox (fake out user-agent header on firefox.
user-agent header from Firrefox:
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.7) Gecko/20
060909 Firefox/1.5.0.7
user-agent header from IE:
User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1)
p/s:change user-agent on your browser…
..that all.
Thanks

Cool. But does the page always function as it’s supposed to do when being browsed by this ‘unsupported’ browser? It’s a good thing for me to try that myself. Thanks.
